Get Messy | Season of Dreams | Week 1

Welcome back to another Season of Get Messy Art Journaling. I’ve taken a few weeks off from posting on my blog, and creating art in general. I had surgery early in September and it has taken me quite a few weeks to recover. But I am on the mend now, and have started the new Season of Dreams.

Equipment: Gesso, Liquitex Flexible Modelling Paste, Winsor Newton Water Colours – Turquoise, Liquitex Liquid Acrylic – Gold

The journal I have chosen for this season is an altered book that I bought from Ikea a couple of months ago. Its a housing design book and opens flat really well so I bought it specifically for the purpose of using it as a journal. It has some great imagery inside too which will add to my pages. I’m planning on working mostly in an abstract collage style this season. Practicing and refining skills I have learnt in a couple of online course lately – mainly Creatures and Lyrical by ByBun (Roxanne Coble).

My first page uses the quote from week one prompts. I don’t remember my dreams very often and if I do they are kind of hazy and indescribable so I’m probably not going to use ‘dream’ based prompts this season.

Equipment: Notebook paper, black ballpoint pen, Liquitex Heavy Body paint – Titanium White, Windsor Newton Water colours – Paynes Grey and Turquoise.

Equipment: Ephemera (mainly from magazines but there are some gelli prints in there too), Liquitex Heavy Body paint – Titanium White and Paynes Grey, Semco Craft Paints in two shades of blue, White gel pen.

Dreams obviously are all blue – right? Well that seems to be my colour of the week or month. If it’s not pink, it has to be blue. Probably more of a coincidence really. This spread was made by choosing pieces of ephemera in coordinated colours, glueing them down with matte medium and then blending paint to form an abstract scene. I then added connecting painted elements to bring it all together. I really like the doodled flower pot – it’s a cut out from a magazine, not my own doodling.

That’s about it for week 1, can’t wait to see what next week’s prompts bring.

Tanya! Your incredibly talented! I have so many questions for you! Do you sell ANY of your pages? Do you have a web-shop? Do you sell any other type of creative arts you make that you’ve mentioned? I am seriously intrigued by your art! It is very inspirational. I only hope to learn how to be so ..”open” to this (the art journalling) process to be as confident in my own abilities. Thank you for sharing so much of your work. Amazing!

Wow, I love how beautiful your pages are. The texture on the title page! The use of the IKEA-bed and the colours!
