Everyone should be able to tell by now that I love to create pretty things. I love recording memories for my family, I love designing things – books, magazines, brochures, flyers, websites etc – for my day job, and I love making my house a home by filling it with photos and pretty things. What you may not have known though, is that I like getting messy with my craft as well. Well I’ve only just discovered that I love this so I will forgive you all for not knowing.
I noticed a few Instagram posts over the last few months with really cool paintings and collages (art journal pages) and they caught my attention. I had to do a drawing assignment once where I had to make a collage and then sketch it using tonal shading. I loved this assignment – so I’m not surprised that art journalling appeals to me.
So I started playing with paper and magazines and paints and created my first journal page – a cover – and posted it on Instagram for fun.
I was very surprised when a comment appeared suggesting I join the Get Messy Challenge group. I had no idea what it was – but was quite intrigued to find out more. And I’m so glad I did. I am hooked!
Get Messy is an art journal challenge where a gang of crafty vixens are sharing art journal pages we have created to practise our skills and push past our creative limits with hopes to inspire. We share our pages without restraint every week, and once a month we create around a prompt. Go check out these crazy talented ladies who are creating pages who each have a unique perspective and style. We will be sharing our work around social media so follow the hashtag #getmessyartjournal.
I have been having loads of fun getting messy and it is now time to share my first couple of pages. It was so hard to choose which ones to start with – so I’m sharing a few.
I started using a spare 8.5×11 album because I thought that would give me heaps of space.
This was a good choice – but I also had a cute gold 4×4 album that was just crying out to be used. So, I have two art journals on the go – and I love them both!
Today I am sharing 4 pages. The first two are from my larger album and are my thoughts about the month of July.
I really like using water colours they are so easy to use and create the most gorgeous backgrounds.
My second two pages are from the smaller album. Being smaller, these pages are much quicker to make, but I actually found them more enjoyable too.
The LHS page represents my One Little Word for 2014 – Accept. A simple and clean page that represents my acceptance of everything that is happening around me. Change is the only constant as they say. I made this page as a reminder of my word when the all of the changes in my world get a bit overwhelming.
The RHS page was a fun way to combine doodling and the use of my HUGE stash of embellishments for my scrapbooking and Project Life pages. And it also tells a story about how I was feeling at the time, fun and a little bit playful.
Don’t you just love that cute gold album?
So that is my first post for the Get Messy Challenge. I hope you like my pages. I’d love to hear your thoughts, and maybe even some ideas for future pages for my journal.
