Get Messy | Season of Nature | Week 1

It’s been quite a while since I shared any Get Messy Art Journal work. I’ve been so busy keeping up with design team projects and Brush Magazine that I haven’t had much time to make my own art. But this past two weeks I have certainly made up for it.

The newest season for Get Messy is the Season of Nature, and this one is right up my alley.

I made my own journal, which seems to be my favourite type of journal at the moment. I love being able to choose my own papers and mixing them all up.

The first two prompts that I followed were to make my own inks following Vanessa’s witches brew recipes. And I experimented with some others as well. The second prompt was about an animal, and of course I chose an owl. One of my spirit animals.

I love the rustic nature of this spread – the inks are amazing (but are a little smelly so that’s hard to get used to). Especially the cabbage ink I made, it is such a deep purple/blue colour.

My second spread is based on a prompt about rain and splashing water on the pages. I started with the watercolour, let it dry a bit and then splashed fresh water on top. It created a raindrop texture which is really lovely.

I’m not sure how long I can keep up with the season, but I am sure going to give it my best shot. Hopefully I can share some more work with you again next week.

  1. I’m glad you are getting some time to art journal again. I think this is going to be an enjoyable season of summer and nature. And yay for getting your owl in the journal.
