Welcome to a new season of art journaling – and what a beauty it is – who doesn’t love fairy tales? I’m on a tight schedule for the next few weeks, so have made a small journal with only enough pages for one or two spreads a week. I also purchased a gorgeous vintage Thumbelina book. This was my favourite story as a kid – I remember it being read to me when I was only about 4 or 5, and it has never left my mind.
I made the journal out of a gift bag and some sheets of watercolour paper, old book pages and some recycled cotton paper which is a delight to work on.
I copied a page from a floral illustration book for the cover and watercoloured over the top. I like the feminine feel.
For my first spread, I chose to investigate a fractured fairy tale – and couldn’t go past the episode of Once Upon A Time where they explored Little Red Riding Hood. It blew my tiny mind then, and I had to include it in my journal.
What was your favourite fairy tale as a child? Is it still your favourite or do you have others?
