Welcome to week 4 of the Season of Happy. I started this week with a bit of artists block. I had ideas for what I wanted to make, but they just didn’t work. Usually when I have this problem I persist, I add layers, I write quotes, or whatever until I am happy with the outcome. This week I just couldn’t do that. I hated everything I was making. I decided to take a step back, take a day off and start again. And finally, I made some pages I was happy with.
First I have made a monochrome page using just aqua acrylic paint – and a magazine image. I was inspired by the photo actually – her face just screams happiness to me.
Here is a little-known fact about me – I am not a big movie watcher. I always get fidgety and can think of a million things I should/could/want to be doing instead of sitting in one place watching a movie. Give me a 45 minute TV series any day. But this week I made the effort and watched Inside Out. And what a cute kids movie it was. I can imagine my kids watching this one over and over and over again – just like they did many other Pixar films! I could totally relate to the little voices and thought bubbles. Gee I wonder which one is dominant in my brain?
I decided to water colour the characters as my tribute to the film. And I just love how this turned out!
And for my last page, I wanted to create an abstract water colour background. It’s been a while since I really played around with water colours and blended colours and tried different techniques. I also made some marks, inspired by Ashley Goldberg. I love her style, so simple but just adds so much to a page.
I chose the quote from the Baz Luhrmann piece – Sunscreen. It really spoke to me as I am guilty of wasting my time being jealous and trying to seek approval for everything that I do. I need to remember exactly why I do things – for me – and no-one else. And for this reason, I embraced my little mistakes in the writing of the quote, and moved on!
So that’s it from my journal this week. What have you been making lately? What is making you happy?
